From Joseph Adahnu, Yola

The Adamawa State Government, has reaffirmed its commitment to harnessing the state’s tourism potential to attract visitors and investors.

Speaking in Yola during the 2026 World Tourism Day celebrations, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Aloysius Babadoke, said the annual event underscores the state’s determination to preserve its diverse cultural traditions and promote them to both domestic and international tourists.

His words, “The colourful ceremony reflects the Fintiri administration’s focus on culture and tourism as drivers of economic growth, job creation, and social development. He also highlighted Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s planned modern amusement park in Yola as part of broader efforts to boost the sector.

The commissioner described the vibrant cultural displays at the event as clear evidence of Adamawa’s rich tourism potential. He noted that traditional institutions, including emirates and chiefdoms, continue to play a vital role in safeguarding the state’s cultural heritage.

Babadoke listed several notable attractions with strong tourism development potential, among them the Elephant House, Sukur Kingdom, and Kiri Dam, along with other cultural and natural sites.

He added that government investments in the sector are already producing results, pointing to sustained growth in tourism revenue over the past three years.

“This is our fourth time celebrating the cultural day, and we will continue to celebrate it in the next five to ten years because we want our people, especially the younger generation, to understand and appreciate our culture,” he said.

The event drew government officials, cultural troupes, tourism enthusiasts, civil society organisations, and representatives of the state’s emirates and chiefdoms. It featured colourful traditional performances and a procession that began at the Fire Service Underpass in Jimeta and ended at the Unity Flyover.
