From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command, has assured residents of a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration, following the deployment of additional personnel and the enforcement of key safety regulations across the state.

Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the Command has intensified surveillance in communities, markets, worship centres, motor parks and other public places to forestall any security breach during the festive season.

He said the Command is working closely with other security agencies to ensure intelligence sharing and prompt response to threats. “We want residents to celebrate without fear. Our men are on ground and fully prepared to ensure a hitch-free festive period,” the CP assured.

The police chief reiterated the ban on fireworks, bangers and other explosive devices, warning that they pose risks and could be exploited by criminals. “Anyone caught selling or using prohibited explosives will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement noted.

He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives. “Go about your lawful activities confidently. We remain committed to your safety throughout the celebrations and beyond,” he said.

The Command encouraged the public to report suspicious activities or emergencies through its control room numbers: 08125275046 or 0703206950.
