NUJ Adamawa Chapel organises novelty match ahead of Correspondents Day

The Adamawa state Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), has organised a millennium novelty football Match between the state Executive and the legislative arms of government.

In a press Conference, at the press Gallery Yola the state capital, the Chairman Local Organising Committee (LOC), Comrade Umar Dankano, said the novelty match, is part of activities to mark the 2026 Correspondents’ Day Celebration.

Dankano said the two-day event, scheduled to hold from April 15 to 16, is organized to commemorate and reflect on the modest but impactful achievements of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, Adamawa State Council, under the leadership of Comrade Ibrahim Kado, who has just marked one year in office.

He stressed that, ‎Correspondents’ Day provides a unique opportunity for  media professionals, to pause and weight their collective contributions toward shaping the society. It is a moment of reflection on how journalists, have advanced public discourse, promoted accountability, and contributed to the social and mental well-being of the communities they serve.

He noted that, journalists,  continuously commit their physical and psychological energy to the noble task of informing, educating, and enlightening the public for societal development.

‎”The Correspondents’ Chapel, often described as a microcosm of Nigeria, plays a critical role in agenda-setting for those in positions of authority and the general public. This responsibility is reinforced by Section 22 of the Nigerian Constitution, which mandates the media to uphold accountability and good governance.

‎”The LOC, has carefully curated a series of activities to celebrate and appreciate the dedication and professionalism of our members with it’s programme of, training workshop for 100 practicing journalists, focused on reshaping the narrative of election reportage ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎”Aslo a medical outreach programme is open to both members and the general public, offering free health screenings including hypertension, Hepatitis, HIV, and other essential tests.

‎”While a novelty football match between the executive and legislative arms of government will be held, symbolizing and strengthening the cordial working relationship that has enhanced our operations as journalists.”

‎Comrade Dankano, added that there will be award and recognition to honour outstanding colleagues for excellence in reportage, discipline, and professional conduct.

‎The local committee chairman therefore invite well meaning individuals and organisations to join in making the celebration impactful and memorable.
