From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), has described President Bola Tinubu’s approval, for the creation of four new divisions of the Nigerian Army as a landmark that will significantly strengthen the country’s security architecture.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the governors said the simultaneous establishment of four new Army divisions represents the largest expansion of the Nigerian Army in modern history.

The Forum said the decision reflects the President’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the country amid ongoing security challenges.

“We wholeheartedly welcome this development, including the President’s approval for the Army to hire 28,000 new personnel and acquire more critical military assets. We are confident that this initiative will enhance the government’s counterterrorism and anti-banditry efforts,” the statement read.

The NGF also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Federal Government on security and other national development priorities.

While applauding the Federal Government’s efforts, the governors urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence that would help tackle criminal activities across the country.

“The Forum again urges citizens to continue to support government and security forces to strengthen security in every part of the country, including giving timely information to the security agencies,” the statement added.
