From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has commenced a three-day capacity-building programme, for intelligence and investigation personnel, with a renewed call for stronger collaboration among security agencies to tackle Nigeria’s growing security threats.

The training, which began recently at the State Library Conference Hall in Ilorin, focuses on ethical intelligence sharing, operational collaboration and coordinated responses to crimes such as terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, cybercrime, illegal mining, vandalism of critical national assets and other organised criminal activities.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Abbas Mohammed, represented by the Deputy Commandant in charge of Administration, DCC Ayelabowo Olusegun, described intelligence as the foundation of successful security operations.

He said the changing nature of insecurity across the country requires security agencies to work together through timely intelligence sharing and professionally coordinated operations.

“The contemporary security environment demands a coordinated, intelligence-driven and ethically guided response from all security stakeholders,” he said.

According to him, no single security agency can effectively confront today’s complex security challenges alone, stressing that lasting national security depends on mutual trust, professionalism, accountability, respect for human rights and responsible intelligence management.

Mohammed explained that the programme was designed to strengthen the capacity of intelligence and investigation officers in intelligence gathering and analysis, ethical intelligence management, investigative report writing, operational planning, joint operations, financial crime investigation, public relations and human rights compliance.

He added that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to promote continuous professional development and improve the Corps’ operational efficiency across the country.

The Commandant urged participants to maximise the opportunity provided by the training through active participation in lectures, practical sessions, case studies and interactive discussions.

“The knowledge acquired should translate into improved service delivery, enhanced intelligence coordination and more effective protection of lives, property and critical national assets and infrastructure,” he said.

The programme, organised by the Command’s Intelligence and Investigation Department under the theme, “Ethical and Actionable Intelligence Sharing and Operational Collaboration Among Security Agencies in Nigeria,” has drawn participants from the NSCDC and resource persons from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Customs Service, Central Bank of Nigeria, National Human Rights Commission, Nigerian Bar Association and the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

The three-day training, scheduled to end on August 6, is expected to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and enhance intelligence-led security operations in Kwara State and beyond.
