The Kwara State Police Command, has commenced the immediate enforcement of traffic laws across the state, as part of efforts to improve road safety, curb traffic violations and reduce accidents.
The directive, issued by the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, follows what the command described as the growing disregard for traffic regulations by some motorists and other road users, a development it said has contributed to avoidable crashes, traffic congestion and threats to lives and property.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command said the exercise aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and is aimed at restoring order on roads across Kwara State.
“The enforcement exercise is aimed at restoring sanity, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations, safeguarding lives, and promoting an orderly road transport system throughout the State,” the statement said.

The police stressed that the operation was not designed to harass or inconvenience law-abiding residents but to encourage responsible road use and respect for traffic regulations.
To ensure professionalism during the exercise, the Commissioner of Police, directed officers deployed for traffic enforcement to carry out their duties firmly but with respect for the rights and dignity of members of the public.
The command also warned that any police officer found violating traffic regulations or engaging in misconduct during the operation would face disciplinary action.
“The Commissioner of Police has also warned that any police officer found violating traffic regulations or engaging in any form of misconduct during the enforcement operation will be subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures,” the statement added.
The police urged motorists, commercial transport operators, tricycle and motorcycle riders to obey traffic signs, adhere to speed limits, avoid reckless driving, keep valid vehicle documents and refrain from actions capable of endangering other road users.
The command appealed for the cooperation of residents as the statewide enforcement begins, assuring the public of its commitment to safer roads, protection of lives and property, and a secure environment where every road user plays a role in promoting compliance with traffic laws.
