Resident Doctors at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), have joined the ongoing nationwide strike declared by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).
The strike, which began on Monday, is aimed at pressuring the federal government to secure the release of two doctors who have been in the hands of kidnappers for nearly eight months.
According to Dr. M.J. Yusuf, the Kwara State Chairman of the association, three doctors were initially abducted, but one was later released.
Speaking to journalists in Ilorin, Dr. Yusuf, mentioned that the doctors had handed over their patients and duties to consultants on humanitarian grounds before fully withdrawing from their duties.
The strike is expected to last for two weeks, during which the doctors hope the federal government will take decisive action to ensure the safe return of their colleagues.
