From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command, has arrested three suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity, over the alleged abduction and murder of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, as security operatives intensify efforts to apprehend nine other members of the gang who remain at large.

The command said the arrests followed an intensive investigation by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), into the disappearance of the victim.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ilorin.

According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended during coordinated tactical operations conducted on Monday, June 29, at identified cult hideouts across Ilorin metropolis.

The suspects were identified as Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, 23, also known as “Solar”; Bernard Kayode, 25, alias “KK”; and Owoyemi Bashiru, 27, popularly called “GDP.”

Police investigations revealed that the suspects are alleged members of a violent cult group linked to the abduction of 29-year-old Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, an indigene of Oyo State and a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, who had been declared missing since June 4, 2026.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation to their respective roles in the crime, admitting that the victim was killed after being abducted.

“The suspects confessed to their respective roles in the crime and disclosed that the victim was executed by members of the cult group after his abduction,” the statement said.

The command further disclosed that the criminal gang comprises 12 members, with nine suspects still on the run.

It added that tactical operations had been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects, dismantle the criminal network and recover the victim’s body.

The police also stated that the suspects currently in custody were providing investigators with useful information regarding other violent crimes allegedly committed by the cult group within Ilorin metropolis.

The command assured residents that investigations were ongoing and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all those found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of the investigation.
