Kogi Govt inaugurates new Pension Commission, reaffirms commitment to retirees’ welfare

The Kogi State Government, has inaugurated a new Pension Commission, reaffirming its dedication to the welfare and timely payment of pensions and gratuities for retired civil servants across the state.

The swearing-in ceremony took place recently in Lokoja, where the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), Mrs. Folashade Ayoade, PhD, administered the Oath of Allegiance, Office, and Secrecy to the newly appointed members of the commission.

In her charge to the new team, Mrs. Ayoade, urged the commissioners to work closely with the Director-General to sustain and build upon the achievements of the previous board. She stressed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, remains deeply committed to the wellbeing of pensioners and retirees in the state.

Plans are underway to commence the bulk payment of gratuities as the state’s revenue continues to improve,” Mrs. Ayoade disclosed. She noted that pensions are currently being paid promptly and consistently, and charged the new management to maintain this standard.

The SGS emphasised the need for the appointees to discharge their duties with fairness, patriotism, and dedication. She explained that the appointments were made based on merit and proven competence, particularly applauding the reappointment of the Director-General, Hajia Mariam Abedo, whose performance earned the confidence of the State Government.

“Governor Ododo has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the welfare of retired civil servants. I urge you to justify the trust reposed in you by serving with integrity and unwavering commitment,” she said.

Also speaking at the event, the Head of Service, Hajia Falilat Musa, Esq., congratulated the Director-General and the newly inaugurated commissioners. She encouraged them to pursue excellence and remain focused on delivering quality service to the people of Kogi State.

Responding on behalf of the inaugurated team, the Director-General, Hajia Mariam  Abedo, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Ododo for the opportunity to continue serving the state.

Hajia Abedo assured that the commission would work in unity to effectively fulfill its mandate. “We pledge to serve with transparency, fairness, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of all pensioners in Kogi State,” she stated.

The newly inaugurated members of the Kogi State Pension Commission are: Hajia Mariam Abedo – Director-General , Umar Suleiman Isah – Commissioner, Yakubu Suleiman Aliu – Commissioner and Ibrahim Bala Mohammed – Commissioner

The inauguration is seen as a strategic move by the Governor Ododo led administration to strengthen the pension management system and ensure sustained improvement in the welfare of retirees.

Stakeholders have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the new commission will further enhance transparency and efficiency in pension administration in the state.
