The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has visited some polling units while monitoring today’s Mock election going on in some selected Areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja; even as he warned against compromising the upcoming Area Council Election.

Professor Amupitan who visited polling units at polling unit 001 Ushafa 1&2 Primary School and Gbai (Gbagyi) Primary school Dutse, both in Bwari Area Council of FCT, Abuja; where about 21 out of 1262 Persons and 11 persons respectfully came out for accreditation at the time of visit, said, he was satisfied with the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
The first polling unit visited by the Chairman, was the Area10/Post office polling unit. Other polling units visited are; Government Secondary School (GSS), Wuse 2 in the Municipal Area Council where two polling units are located. While one of the polling unit recorded 4 persons who came for the mock election, the second polling unit recorded zero.

Amupitan, while addressing the Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) at Garki, Abuja, urged the SPOs, not to compromise. “I’m sure you know your statutory duties, and I will urge you to take the pain, to take your time also to understand what is written in the manual.
“And of course, you have a key role to play. You are still going to train other people and please, I would urge you not to compromise because Nigeria is in dire need of a very stable and intellectual process.
“Our major target and focus here is the functionality of the BVAS which for us is a ‘game changer’ and we have improved on it, we are using this mock accreditation and mock election to test the functionality of the BVAS as well as the improvement that has been made”, he said.
