The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, has officially unveiled Reverend Cornelius Olaosebikan Sunday Fawenu as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the PDP in Kwara State, Hon. Isa Adamu, during the party’s official unveiling ceremony held in Ilorin.
Adamu described the occasion as a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, saying the PDP remains united and committed to providing purposeful leadership for the people of Kwara State.
According to him, the emergence of Fawenu followed extensive consultations across the state, during which four qualified and respected party members were nominated for the position of deputy governorship candidate.
He noted that after consultations involving the party leadership, key stakeholders and the party’s governorship candidate, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu, Fawenu was selected as the running mate.
The state chairman said the choice of Fawenu was based on merit, competence, character and his unwavering commitment to the development of Kwara State.
“Accordingly, I am pleased to present to the people of Kwara State Reverend Cornelius Olaosebikan Sunday (COS) Fawenu, as the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2027 Governorship Race,” Adamu declared.
He described Fawenu as a respected cleric, community leader and advocate of peace whose ministry has spanned more than two decades, adding that his contributions to religious harmony, political development, humanitarian service and community advancement have earned him widespread respect across the state.
Adamu also commended Fawenu for sacrificing his earlier ambition to contest the Kwara South Senatorial seat in the interest of the party.
He said the cleric’s decision to relinquish the senatorial ticket demonstrated loyalty, discipline and commitment to the collective interest of the PDP.
According to him, the party has commenced the constitutional process to fill the vacancy created by Fawenu’s withdrawal from the Kwara South Senatorial race and has notified the party’s National Chairman accordingly.
The PDP chairman reiterated the party’s resolve to provide leadership focused on security, economic growth, youth and women empowerment, quality education, agricultural development and transparent governance if elected in 2027.
He also appreciated other aspirants who sought the deputy governorship ticket, describing their conduct throughout the selection process as exemplary.
“There are no losers; each remains a valued partner in our collective mission to rescue and rebuild Kwara,” he said.
Adamu called on party members and supporters to remain united and work towards securing victory in the 2027 governorship election.
He formally presented Fawenu as the running mate to the PDP governorship candidate, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu, expressing confidence that the party’s ticket would offer Kwarans the responsive and people-centred leadership they desire.
