Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has donated 10 electric patrol motorcycles to the Federal Road Safety Corps as part of his administration’s efforts to boost the command’s operational capabilities in the state.

This is even as he called for stronger collaboration among governments and road safety stakeholders to reduce crashes and save lives across Nigeria.

Governor Ododo presented the motorcycles to the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, when he received the agency’s team at the Government House, Lokoja, shortly after his investiture as the Grand Patron of the Special Marshals of the Corps.

The Governor said Kogi’s strategic position as the gateway linking Northern and Southern Nigeria places enormous pressure on its road network, making effective traffic management and road safety interventions essential to the nation’s socio-economic activities.

The Governor announced the elevation of the Senior Special Assistant on Road Safety Matters, Yusuf Suberu, to the position of Special Adviser in recognition of his contributions to advancing road safety administration in the state.

Governor Ododo further assured the Corps Marshal that requests presented by the FRSC would receive favourable consideration.

Presenting the 10 electric patrol motorcycles, the Governor said the equipment would strengthen the Corps’ operational capacity and improve emergency response and highway patrol operations.

He dedicated his investiture as Grand Patron of the Special Marshals of the FRSC to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the honour reflects the President’s vision of promoting safer roads and protecting the lives of Nigerians.

Earlier, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, appealed to the Kogi State Government to revive motor parks across the state to improve traffic management. He was informed that the initiative is already being implemented and is nearing completion.

The Corps Marshal described the donation of the electric patrol motorcycles as a significant boost to the operational capacity of the Corps, noting that the equipment would support road safety operations across the country.

In related development, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has been officially decorated as the Patron of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshals.

The ceremony held in Banquet Hall of the Government House Lokoja on Wednesday, was one of the key highlights of the 2026 Strategic Stakeholders’ Conference on Road Safety.

The honour was in recognition of the governor’s sustained support for road safety initiatives and his commitment to reducing highway fatalities in Kogi State.

The decoration took place during an Investiture/Award Dinner organized by Dr Suberu Yusuf-John, Ododo’s Senior Special Assistant on Road Safety Matters, to bring together cross-sector stakeholders to address road safety challenges across the state.

In his address at the event, FRSC Corps Marshall Shehu Muhammed explained that FRSC selected Ododo for the patron role because of his track record of prioritizing road safety, including past commitments to expand

In his address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Road Safety Matters, Honourable Yusuf Suberu stated that the appointment aligns with Ododo’s earlier public pledges to boost FRSC’s capabilities in Kogi, including a commitment made just six days before the investiture to partner with the corps to improve road safety and emergency response across the state.
