From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has pledged to strengthen security surveillance around Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, as part of efforts to protect students, staff and critical infrastructure within and around the institution.

The State Commandant of the Corps, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Prof. Abdullateef Oladimeji, FCIPM, at the university premises in Ilorin.

The Commandant said the NSCDC, as the lead agency implementing the Federal Government’s Safe School Project, remained committed to working with educational institutions and other security stakeholders to prevent criminal activities and ensure a safe learning environment.

According to him, the Corps places a high premium on its relationship with Al-Hikmah University and is ready to build on the existing partnership to address emerging security concerns.

“NSCDC is committed to enhancing security surveillance within the institution to deter criminal activities. We will provide all necessary support to maintain top-tier security standards not only within the university premises but also in its immediate surroundings,” Abbas said.

He stressed that protecting schools requires sustained collaboration among security agencies, school authorities and other stakeholders, noting that the safety of students and staff remains a priority under the Safe School Project.

Responding, Prof. Oladimeji commended the NSCDC for its continued support towards maintaining peace and security on the university campus.

The Vice-Chancellor described the Corps as a dependable partner in the university’s efforts to safeguard its academic community and infrastructure.

He said the presence of NSCDC personnel had contributed positively to deterring criminal activities within the institution, while appealing for increased collaboration to tackle emerging security challenges.

Prof. Oladimeji expressed optimism that the strengthened partnership would further enhance safety and create a more conducive environment for teaching, learning and research at the university.

The visit was contained in a statement signed by the Kwara State NSCDC Command’s Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, ASC I Ayoola Shola, and made available to journalists in Ilorin.
