The ongoing Local Government elections in Kogi State has been described as the best in the country.
The National Secretary of the Forum of States Independent Electoral Commissions, Dr. Joseph Aremo, made this known while monitoring the conduct of the council polls at Ward A, Bishop Crowther Memorial College polling unit Lokoja.
Dr. Aremo who doubles as the Chairman of Ondo State Electoral Commission, acknowledged the massive turnout of the voters at the centre, saying it was a proof that the electorate were prepared to elect their representatives at the grassroots.
The National Secretary of the Forum, said he also acknowledged the peaceful conduct of the election, noting that it was a pointer that the people believe in the process of the election.
At ward D, Angwar Kura polling unit in Lokoja, a voter, Mallam Kabiru Adamu, told The Graphic that the voting was seamless. He added that he was happy to witness another council election in the State.
Maikudi Hassan who also voted at Angwar Kura polling unit, told The Graphic that the electoral officers arrived on time. He said at 10.30am he voted the candidate of his choice.
When The Graphic spoke to Abubakar Adamu Danasabe who is the Presiding Officer at Crowther Memorial College polling unit, he stated that he and his electoral officers arrived at the polling unit at 800am. He also added that accreditation and voting are going on simultaneously.
In an interview, the KOSIEC Chairman, Mamman Nda Eri, said the conduct of elections was smooth in the polling units he monitored with the Forum of the Chairmen of State Independent Electoral Commission. He said reports from the field across the State also indicates that the election is being conducted peacefully.
Eri assured Kogi State electorate that the Commission will come up with a credible election at the end of the day.
