Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and formerly joined All Progressives Congress (APC).
He described the move as a strategic step aimed at securing long-term stability, development and prosperity for the state.
Fintiri defected to APC alongside twenty-two Commissioners and Special Advisers.
In a statewide broadcast, the governor recalled the overwhelming mandate given to his administration in 2019 and 2023, noting that the support of the people placed a moral burden on the government to remain committed to its social contract.

He highlighted achievements recorded under his leadership, including improved security of lives and property, construction of roads, schools, hospitals, houses and markets, as well as interventions in education, water and electricity supply.
Fintiri also cited youth and women empowerment programmes and the creation of new chiefdoms, emirates and districts as part of efforts to foster inclusion and development.
Governor Fintiri, said, his administration has consistently been guided by consultation, legality and impact in taking major decisions, stressing that recent political developments necessitated a decisive and strategic realignment.
His words, “After wide consultations with a large spectrum of our people, we have resolved to politically align Adamawa State with the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
He emphasised that, the alignment would enable the state to effectively support and leverage the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which focuses on social welfare, infrastructure, housing and inclusive economic development.
The Governor further stated, that the decision to exit the PDP was not driven by personal ambition or convenience but by what he described as an overriding commitment to the state’s future.
He reassured his supporters, that the movement into the APC would be collective, involving structures across the 226 wards and 21 local government areas, alongside elected and appointed officials.
Fintiri called on supporters to register massively with the APC and prepare for what he termed a “guaranteed future” for Adamawa State. Describing the move as an act of “political sagacity,” he said the alignment would return the state to mainstream national politics and open up greater opportunities for growth and participation in the Nigerian project.
The governor assured citizens that his administration would continue to build infrastructure, expand educational and healthcare facilities, empower youths and women, create employment opportunities and provide scholarships and bursaries for indigent and international students.
At the end, he urge the people to sustain their trust in his leadership, pledging continued selfless service irrespective of political platform.
