The 7th edition of the Umar Empowerment Foundation Unity Cup, one of Omala’s fast-rising grassroots sporting events, has officially ended with the crowning of Omala United FC as champions.

The tournament, organised by a proud son of the area and member representing Omala State Constituency at the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Umar Yahaya, popularly known as Connect, saw Omala United FC emerged champions after edging out Ajadama FC, in a tense and closely fought final decided by penalties.

The encounter, played at the headquarters of Omala Local Government Area, ended goalless at regulation time, with both sides cancelling each other out in a contest that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

Omala United FC, however, held their nerve in the ensuing shootout, winning 4–3 to lift the coveted trophy.

Giving a further insight into the initiative , the organiser of the tournament, Hon. Umar Yahaya (Connect), praised the participating teams, particularly the youths, for their discipline, coordination and high level of sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Speaking shortly after the final whistle , the lawmaker noted that the peaceful conduct of players and supporters alike shows the essence of the Unity Cup, describing the tournament as a veritable platform for harnessing youth potential and promoting peaceful coexistence in the area.

Hon. Umar also expressed gratitude to traditional rulers, community leaders, sports administrators and other stakeholders who honoured the event with their presence and support, stressing that their encouragement remained vital to sustaining grassroots sports development.

Dignitaries at the finals included a former Chairman of Omala Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Ibrahim Aboh; a representative of the Onu Ife; the Kogi State Director of Sports; and a representative of the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, among other notable guests.
