From Abdullahi Idris, Dutse
Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has expressed confidence that the ongoing review of Nigeria’s revenue allocation formula will be conducted fairly and urged the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), to ensure equity and justice for all states.

Namadi made the remarks on recently in Dutse, while receiving an RMAFC delegation led by Barrister Imo Akpan, the Federal Commissioner representing Akwa Ibom State. The team was in Jigawa to begin the nationwide data verification exercise that forms part of the formula review.
Describing the exercise as timely, the governor said a review was overdue given the country’s changing population dynamics, infrastructure development, and socioeconomic realities. He commended RMAFC for initiating the process and expressed optimism that the current leadership would succeed where past attempts had failed.

“We are confident that there will be fairness in this exercise. We believe everybody will be treated fairly according to the standards expected,” Namadi said.
He noted that several previous efforts to revise the revenue formula had not produced results, but added that the determination shown by the present commission gave room for optimism.

“The bold attempt by the Commission to review the revenue allocation formula is something to be appreciated because several attempts were made in the past without success. But with the determination demonstrated by the current leadership, we are optimistic that this exercise will succeed, Insha’Allah,” he said.
The governor pledged Jigawa’s full cooperation with the commission throughout the verification process.
Earlier, Akpan said the nationwide data verification was necessary to ensure that allocation figures reflected current realities across the federation. He explained that shifts in population, infrastructure expansion, and development levels required periodic updates to guarantee fairness in the distribution of national resources.
Akpan assured the governor that the exercise would be carried out professionally, transparently, and objectively in line with best practices.
The RMAFC review is expected to shape how federal revenue is shared among the federal government, states, and local councils in the coming years.
