From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command, has dismissed claims of an assault during a protest at the Government House, following widespread circulation of a video on social media.

According to authorities, the footage circulating online is a digitally manipulated composite designed to mislead the public.

A forensic analysis confirmed that the video spliced unrelated violent scenes with images from a peaceful protest, creating the false impression that an attack had taken place at the Government House gate on December 27, 2025. Further checks revealed that some images linked to the claim originated from incidents that occurred several months ago.

Efforts to identify and interview the alleged victims, particularly the two women appearing in the clip, have so far been unsuccessful. No formal complaints have been lodged with the police in relation to the incident, despite public appeals for victims to come forward.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, stressed the need for proper coordination of public demonstrations. He said, “Prior notification and planning for public protests are crucial. This allows the Nigeria Police Force to provide adequate security, prevent hoodlums from hijacking lawful gatherings, and ensure the safety and rights of all citizens.”

The Police Command has urged the public to verify information before sharing content online, emphasising its commitment to maintaining public order while protecting citizens’ rights.

Spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi reaffirmed, “We remain dedicated to safeguarding the people of Kwara State and call on everyone to exercise discernment in the age of viral misinformation.”
