From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Kwara State, has dissolved all its caucuses across the 16 local government areas of the state, signalling the commencement of a major restructuring of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision, which took immediate effect, was reached by the State Executive Committee (SEC), and other key stakeholders following a closed-door meeting with the party leader and former President of the 8th Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, during his recent homecoming and stakeholders’ engagements in the state.

The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the move was aimed at repositioning the PDP for a stronger showing in the 2027 elections.

Adewra said the dissolution was part of a broader plan to refresh the party’s structures, introduce new hands and expand participation among members across the state.

According to him, “The journey towards 2027 has effectively commenced,” adding that the party needed “a more effective and inclusive political machinery capable of delivering victory for the PDP at all levels.”

He explained that the decision was within the powers of the State Executive Committee to take necessary measures to strengthen, reposition and reorganise the party in the interest of its members and its electoral prospects.

The party also expressed appreciation to members of the dissolved caucuses for their contributions, loyalty and sacrifices towards the development of the PDP in Kwara.

“We sincerely appreciate all members of the outgoing caucuses for their dedication, sacrifices, loyalty and contributions to the growth and development of the PDP in Kwara State,” the statement said.

The party urged members of the dissolved caucuses to continue contributing their experience to the collective success of the party as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

It further appealed to party members to remain calm, united and committed, disclosing that arrangements were already underway for the recruitment, constitution and inauguration of new caucuses across the state.

The latest move marks a significant organisational shift within the Kwara PDP as the opposition party begins laying the groundwork for the 2027 electoral contest.
