The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has called on INEC staff and Nigerians to leverage the discipline of Ramadan to ensure electoral integrity in the upcoming 2026 Ekiti and Osun governorship polls.
In an Eid-el-Fitr message in Abuja, Prof. Amupitan highlighted the coincidence of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten period, emphasising the shared values of patience, integrity, and empathy needed for the 2026 and 2027 elections.
He reminded his over 14,000 staff across the country that their welfare is a priority, citing the recent Iftar gathering as proof.
The Chairman stressed the need for professional excellence and zero tolerance for misconduct to rebuild public trust.
With the Electoral Act 2026 mandating stricter tech adherence, the Commission is gearing up for the Ekiti and Osun polls as a test before 2027. Amupitan’s leadership also focuses on modernizing operations and restoring institutional memory.
Prof. Amupitan’s call to action emphasises discipline and integrity, aimed at ending voter apathy and boost public confidence in the electoral process.
