Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has felicitated his immediate predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, on his birthday.

Governor Ododo paid glowing tribute to the immediate past Governor of the State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, describing him as a courageous leader, visionary reformer, mentor, father figure and pathfinder whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the progress and prosperity Kogi State enjoys today.

In a heartfelt birthday message personally penned by the Governor Ododo, reflected on the profound impact of the former Governor on the lives of countless individuals and on the development trajectory of Kogi State, describing him as a leader whose legacy is written not only in projects and policies but also in the lives he has transformed and the destinies he has helped shape.

The Governor noted that Alhaji Yahaya Bello belongs to the rare class of leaders who are willing to endure criticism, make difficult decisions and embrace personal sacrifices for the greater good of their people, adding that history has continued to vindicate his vision, courage and commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous Kogi State.

Governor Ododo said the life and leadership of the former Governor embody the timeless truth that great leaders are often defined not by the comfort they seek for themselves but by the burdens they willingly bear so that others may have a better future.

According to him, Alhaji Bello took the bullets for many difficult decisions that were necessary to reposition Kogi State and lay the foundation for sustainable growth and development.

“His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello chose service over convenience, sacrifice over comfort and vision over popularity. Many of the reforms and initiatives that are yielding positive results for our state today were conceived and implemented at a time when they attracted intense opposition and misunderstanding. Today, the wisdom behind those decisions is becoming clearer, and Kogi State is better for them,” the Governor stated.

He further described the former Governor as a destiny fulfiller whose uncommon ability to identify, nurture and empower people has produced a generation of leaders serving in various capacities across the state and beyond.

“No one saw it coming. No one would have made such choices. It takes an extraordinary leader to see possibilities in people where others see limitations. His Excellency believed in many of us long before others did. Through his faith in people and his commitment to raising leaders, countless destinies have found expression. I am personally a beneficiary of his visionary leadership and mentorship,” he said.

The Governor stressed that beyond the physical infrastructure and institutional reforms associated with the administration of the former Governor, his most enduring legacy may well be the human capital he developed and the opportunities he created for ordinary citizens to rise to positions of responsibility and service.

He noted that the birthday of Alhaji Yahaya Bello is not merely a celebration of another year, but a celebration of impact, courage, resilience and a legacy of transformational leadership that continues to inspire many within and outside Kogi State.

Governor Ododo prayed Almighty Allah to grant the former Governor many more years of good health, wisdom, strength and fulfillment, noting that his experience, guidance and leadership remain invaluable to Kogi State and the nation at large.

“Today, we celebrate a fearless reformer, an exceptional leader, a mentor to many, a father to countless people and a pathfinder whose footprints are firmly etched in the sands of our history. We celebrate a man whose life has become a blessing to many and whose contributions to the development of Kogi State will remain indelible. May Almighty Allah continue to bless and preserve him for greater service to humanity,” the Governor said.
