By Joseph Adahnu, Yola

The Adamawa state Congress of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has elected it’s State Executive Committee under a consensus election.

Addressing the people of Adamawa state at the Mahmud Square Yola, the leader of APC and state Governor, Ahamdu Umaru Fintiri, said the journey to this point may be short but interestingly revealing.

Acording to him, it is a journey that started with the decision of some of them who were former members of the PDP that aligned with the APC.

The Governor noted that, “this congress today, we have the new APC in Adamawa state with structures and Exco at the Ward, Local Government and State levels. What this means is that beside meeting the constitutional requirement of the existence of structures, as a party, we have advanced beyond alignment to fusion. We are now fused into one strong united progressive party in the state with a flag of authority in the Government House.”

He said, APC is a party built on the tradition of mergers and alignments. “So, when we decided to align, the party, willingly opened its arms to accommodate us because it is a very familiar move that is in conformity with its foundational culture.”

Fintiri reiterared that, “it is on this note that the party shifted the dates for its state congresses in Adamawa state to allow the aligning entities to fit in. It is politically interesting that, as short as this journey is from the time it began, it has revealed that we have truly been longing for each other.

“We truly need each other and can work with each other. This is evidenced by the seamless alignment process and the milestone we have achieved within a short period of political intercourse.

“Our framework, beginning with the ward congress to Local Government Congress and now the state congress, clearly indicates not only our collective resolve to work together but our maturity to build a strong politically vibrant party, capable of winning all elections at all levels in the state.

“Fellow partymen and women, we have been able to grow this fast because as leaders, we have been open to each other. As politicians we have been pragmatic in making concessions. And as democrats, we have been objectively disposed to transparent engagement with citizens, stakeholders, interest groups and indeed the electorates.

“We have opened our hearts and our minds to building political alliance and bonding that do not stoop to personal interest or predetermined outcome. I must appreciate the leadership and followership of our great party. You’re worthy President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, for your leadership to the country and our party, our National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda and all the National Working Committee members, the National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu all stakeholders of both the old APC and the PDP who midwifed this fusion to fruition”, he said.

Speaking, the APC Zonal Chairman, Barrister Idris Shuaibu, said, the Congress which commenced from 226 words, 21 local government areas and the state, maintained that Adamawa, is second in the nation to have conducted the freer congresses, the party,  he said, is sure of winning in the forthcoming general election.

In his acceptance speech, the new APC Chairman, Hamza Madagali, said his style of leadership will be all inclusive, he promised to provide level playing ground to all.
