The Adamawa State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr. Tahir Dogo, has dismissed concerns over the alleged defection of 21 local government chairmen and 226 councillors elected on the party’s platform.
Speaking on the development, Dogo described politics as a game of interests, saying the council leaders had simply lost interest in remaining in the PDP. He insisted the mass exit does not weaken the party in any way.
He recalled that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, secured victory in 2019 without a single PDP councillor or local government chairman in office, yet emerged as Governor of Adamawa State.
According to him, the party is even better grounded today, adding that the defections have forced the PDP to return to the drawing board, re-strategize and emerge stronger.
Dogo firmly rejected suggestions that the party might fail to field candidates, declaring that the PDP and its candidate, Dr. Maurice Vunolki, are on course for a clear victory.
“Defection in politics is normal and this doesn’t touch the party’s political structures across the 21 local governments,” Dogo stated.
He added that the exits have only served as fuel to propel the party forward.
“We are certainly going to win, God willing. We have what it takes,” he said.
The PDP Chairman urged supporters across the state to remain calm, ignore distractions and stay focused on the elections ahead, assuring them that the party’s victory is certain.
He further noted that the 21 council chairmen and 226 councillors did not elect themselves, but were elected by party supporters at the grassroots, stressing that the structures of the party remain intact.
