From David Onuoja, Abuja
The management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has commended the Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider, Engrineer Oluwagbenga Ajiboye, alongside General Managers of TCN’s ten regions and their counterparts at the corporate headquarters, for their role in reducing the Transmission Loss Factor across the national grid.
According to a statement by the GM, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the commendation was delivered on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, by TCN Managing Director/CEO Engr. Sule Abdulaziz, during the opening of a two-day quarterly meeting of Executive Directors and General Managers in Abuja.
He described the reduction as proof that coordinated action, is translating into measurable gains in system efficiency. “This achievement reflects not only commitment to duty but also demonstrates that our collective efforts are yielding measurable improvements in system efficiency,” he said.
Abdulaziz charged the team to consolidate the progress by delivering tangible improvements in core operational and managerial performance.
He listed priority areas to include eliminating avoidable losses, strengthening maintenance culture and discipline, reducing outages, and aligning regional operations with management’s strategic direction to build a more robust transmission network.
He reaffirmed management’s commitment to providing a conducive working environment and urged staff to tackle pending tasks with renewed energy, shared purpose, and personal accountability.
In his welcome address, Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider (ED TSP), Engr. Ajiboye said the meeting was convened to appraise company performance, identify operational challenges, and set strategic plans for the future.
He appealed to General Managers to redouble efforts to ensure TCN continues to deliver on its mandate and pledged to resume regular quarterly sessions. Ajiboye emphasised a solutions-driven approach, urging participants to focus on collective action rather than blame to address systemic challenges.
Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Mrs. Abiodun Afolabi-Fadahunsi, stressed the need to strengthen workforce readiness for TSP’s strategic delivery. Highlighted plans to rebalance technical and non-technical staffing, address upcoming retirements in technical roles, and close skills gaps through workforce validation, enhanced technical recruitment, structured induction, role-based training for younger staff, and periodic retraining for experienced personnel.
Also speaking, the ED, Finance and Accounts, acknowledged staff resilience despite limited resources. He noted that staff costs have risen substantially following the NISO unbundling, with more personnel retained by TCN, creating financial pressure as revenue remains low relative to operational demands.
At the close of the two-day session, participants reached key resolutions on the way forward to be presented to the MD/CEO for implementation. The outcomes are expected to guide immediate operational adjustments and reinforce TCN’s push for a more efficient and resilient transmission network.
