The Kwara State Government, has trained 25 medical personnel in Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEMONC), to enhance the safety of mothers and newborn during childbirth.
Speaking at the launch of a 14-day residential training in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, emphasised the importance of equipping frontline obstetric care providers with advanced skills to reduce maternal mortality.
“This training is not just about improving clinical skills; it is about building leadership capacity in maternal healthcare. Now is the time to ensure that professionals in this field are equipped to train others,” El-Imam stated.
She further disclosed that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), had approved five facilities in Kwara to provide free Caesarean sections, reinforcing the government’s commitment to accessible maternal healthcare.
Dr. Hadiza Aliyu, a UNICEF representative, commended the state government for creating an enabling environment for development partners, attributing the achievements in maternal healthcare to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s leadership.
Residents were urged to take advantage of these healthcare initiatives, which aim to reduce childbirth-related fatalities and improve overall maternal and child health in the state.
