In Ihima district, Okehi local government area of Kogi State, culture and tradition was accorded a place of pride recently, when indigenes of the area celebrated the annual Eche-Ikuta festival, to commemorate the death and burial of Oyin-ebira (the mother of Ebira) who died several decades ago.
The one day event which drew traditional rulers, clan heads and other members of the community, was held at the palace of Ogasube of Ure clan, HRH, chief Ononivami Jegede.
In his welcome address the Ogasube of Ure, thanked almighty God for making this year’s celebration a success.
The traditional ruler who commended the commitment and contribution of various clans towards making the celebration a huge success, attributed it to the peace and unity in the community.
He called on all descendants of Oyin-Ebira, to work together to make the annual Eche-Ikuta festival more elaborate
In his address at the occasion, the chairman of Okehi LGA, Hon. Sunday Eneji, congratulated the people of Ihima for successfully marking this year’s celebration.
The council chairman expressed appreciation over the peace and unity among the clans in the area and urged the people to continue to build on it.
Other activities to mark the day, was prayers by various clan heads for continuous peace in Ihima and Ebira land.
Indigenes and guests, were entertained with series of traditional songs, dance steps and traditional delicacies.
