The town of Oboroke-Ihima in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, came alive last weekend as thousands of people from across Ebiraland, gathered to celebrate the 150th birthday anniversary of renowned cultural icon and herbalist, Pa Adayi Sanni Aniki Okikiri.

The milestone celebration, organized annually by the Ubede Descendant Union, featured prayers, cultural displays and a grand reception in honor of the living legend.

Pa Sanni Aniki is widely respected across Ebiraland for his lifelong commitment to the promotion of Ebira culture, traditional music, and herbal medicine.

Speaking at the reception, Chairman of Okehi LGA, Hon. Amoka Sunday, congratulated Pa Sanni Aniki on attaining the rare age of 150.

He described the celebrant as a symbol of peace, unity and cultural heritage, noting his use of traditional music to preach love and harmony in Ihima and Ebiraland at large.

“Baba has used his talent and wisdom to keep our culture alive. He is a bridge that connects generations,” Hon. Amoka said, and suggested that future editions of the celebration be made more elaborate to attract wider participation.

The National Chairman of Ohiowan Clan, Mr. Obojo  Andah, described Pa Aniki as the oldest man in the clan.  “He is talented, hardworking, compassionate and straightforward. We thank God for preserving his life to this age,”  Andah said.

Also speaking, the Kogi State Auditor General, Alhaji Yakubu Adabenege, congratulated the celebrant and the people of Ohiowan on the successful event.

He assured residents of the state government’s commitment to the welfare of the people and urged them to continue supporting government programs aimed at bringing development to the area.

The 150th birthday celebration drew traditional rulers, community leaders, cultural groups and well-wishers who offered prayers for the longevity and good health of Pa Sanni Aniki.

Organisers said the annual event is designed to honor elders who have contributed to the preservation of Ebira customs, values and indigenous knowledge.

The atmosphere in Oboroke-Ihima was filled with music, dance and tributes, as the community celebrated a man many describe as  “a living library of Ebira tradition.”
