Nigeria’s top-ranked female squash player, Rofiat Azeez, has set her sights on breaking into the world’s top 100 players following her second gold medal win for Team Kwara at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta.
Azeez, who claimed victory in an intense all-Kwara final against her close friend Isaac Blessing, described the match as both emotional and competitive. “It was special. We’re friends off the court, but on the court, I had to stay focused. I’m grateful for the win,” she said.
Currently leading the national rankings, Rofiat revealed that her ambition now is to increase her international exposure. “My goal is to attend more international tournaments to improve my global ranking. With more experience, I believe I can reach the top 100 by the end of this year,” she stated confidently.
She also credited her performance to discipline, motivation, and the strategic input of her coach. “This medal didn’t come easy. It’s the result of dedication and the guidance of my coach who keeps pushing me,” Rofiat added.
Her impressive run continues to boost Team Kwara’s morale as the squash team targets more medals before the festival ends. Rofiat remains optimistic about another podium finish in the team event, underscoring her role as a key force behind Kwara’s success in squash.
