Indigenes of Igbajo, Osun State residing in Kwara State, have expressed joy and gratitude over the maiden royal visit of the Owa of Igbajo, Oba Alaiveluwa, to Ilorin, the state capital.
The visit, which took place recently was marked by celebrations and a reaffirmation of cultural heritage.
Speaking at the gathering, Professor Olaye Gbadebo of the University of Ilorin, who serves as a community leader, welcomed the monarch and his entourage, describing the visit as a significant moment in preserving the bond between the traditional ruler and his people in the diaspora.
“This is a long-standing tradition where our revered kings visit their subjects, regardless of where they reside. It is a way of strengthening the connection between the throne and the people, and we are honored that Kabiyesi has continued this legacy,” he said.
He acknowledged the commitment of the Owa of Igbajo to peace and development in the community, praising his leadership.
“We recognise the stability and growth that have defined your reign. Your wisdom and dedication to governance have brought remarkable progress to Igbajo, and we are proud to be associated with this legacy,” Professor Gbadebo added.
While admitting that preparations for the visit may not have met their expectations, he assured the royal delegation that future engagements would be more elaborate.
