NEMA distributes relief items to Farmers-Herders clash victims in Benue

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has distributed relief materials to communities affected by farmers-herders crises in Buruku Local Government Area, Benue State.

The distribution exercise, which was held at the Buruku Local Government Secretariat Hall, was conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross Society, local government officials, and other stakeholders.

Speaking to the refugees during the distribution, NEMA’s Chief Planning Officer, Mrs. Madey Elukpo, expressed the Agency’s condolences to the affected families who lost their loved ones during the clashes.

She equally urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the relief materials given to them and encouraged the community leaders to adopt Disaster Risk Reduction measures to prevent future occurrences.

The relief materials distributed includes, rice, garri, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, tomato paste, and iodized salt. While the Community leaders and beneficiaries appreciated the gesture and timely intervention, saying that the support will help to ease the hardship faced by the victims.

The distribution exercise NEMA said is part of its broader humanitarian response to insecurity and displacement in the region. Adding that the agency remains committed to working with stakeholders to alleviate the suffering of victims and restore normalcy to affected communities.
