The Kwara State Police Command, in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), successfully foiled an attempted kidnap in Oluwalose community, Ilorin-West Local Government Area, in the early hours of July 24, 2024.
This was contained in a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, of the command D.S.P Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, and made available to newsmen in Ilorin Kwara State
“A distress call was received at about 1:30 am from the community along the Okolowo-Jebba Highway, alerting the authorities to an invasion by armed assailants. A patrol team from Oloje Division, supported by the VGN, was promptly dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the security operatives discovered that nine heavily armed individuals, equipped with AK-47 rifles and Dane-guns, had attacked the camp of Alfa Bukhari Jamiu Tunde, targeting guests who had come for prayers. The swift response from the patrol team and the VGN prevented the kidnappers from abducting anyone.
During the incident, a man and his wife from Lagos, who were at the camp, sustained injuries from the assailants.
They were quickly taken to the hospital, treated, and have since been discharged.
The Kwara State Police Command has deployed additional patrol teams in the area and is conducting a thorough search for the perpetrators. The investigation is ongoing, and security in Solaty Village remains under close watch to ensure the safety of residents.
Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya psc(+), praised the bravery and swift action of the patrol team and VGN members, highlighting their critical role in averting a potentially tragic event.”
