From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command, in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), successfully foiled an attempted kidnap in Oluwalose community, Ilorin-West Local Government Area, in the early hours of July 24, 2024.

This was contained in a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, of the command D.S.P Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, and made available to newsmen in Ilorin Kwara State

“A distress call was received at about 1:30 am from the community along the Okolowo-Jebba Highway, alerting the authorities to an invasion by armed assailants. A patrol team from Oloje Division, supported by the VGN, was promptly dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the security operatives discovered that nine heavily armed individuals, equipped with AK-47 rifles and Dane-guns, had attacked the camp of Alfa Bukhari Jamiu Tunde, targeting guests who had come for prayers. The swift response from the patrol team and the VGN prevented the kidnappers from abducting anyone.

Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya psc(+), praised the bravery and swift action of the patrol team and VGN members, highlighting their critical role in averting a potentially tragic event.”

The Kwara State Police Command reaffirms its commitment to protecting lives and property and urge the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
