From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Kwara State Government, in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has revived and inaugurated the Child Rights Implementation Committee to drive legislative reforms on the Child Rights Law.

Speaking during the second edition of the quarterly Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Opeyemi Afolashade, emphasised the government’s commitment to creating awareness around child protection.

“The Committee was resuscitated to create awareness on the importance of the Child Rights Law and provide legal assistance to children and families in cases of abuse,” she said.

Hon. Afolashade, highlighted the Ministry’s recent initiatives, including the celebration of National Children’s Day, where tokens were distributed to less privileged schools by the Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation (GLOHWOC).
