From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has reinforced its commitment to security readiness by equipping personnel with unarmed combat and self-defence skills.

Over 100 officers participated in the five-day training held at the command’s headquarters in Ilorin from February 10 to 14, 2025.

The exercise focused on enhancing tactical responses to security threats, ensuring officers can handle confrontations without necessarily resorting to firearms.

Commandant Umar Mohammed, speaking at the closing ceremony, emphasised the significance of self-defence in modern security operations.

“Security threats come in different forms, and officers must be prepared to neutralise situations effectively, whether armed or unarmed. This training sharpens both physical reflexes and mental alertness, which are critical in our line of duty,” he stated.

He assured that the command would continue to prioritise capacity building to strengthen officers’ ability to protect lives and property.

Participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their commitment to professional excellence, reinforcing the NSCDC’s focus on discipline and operational efficiency.
