The Kogi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (Kogi L-PRES), has commenced the bidding exercise for the rehabilitation of nine livestock markets across the state.
This initiative reflects the commitment of the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo led administration, to enhance the livestock business and boost the agricultural economy.
During the event, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Honourable Timothy Ojomah, welcomed the bidders and reiterated the government’s dedication to building a robust and efficient livestock sector.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Abdulsalam Mohammed, he expressed hope for successful deliberations among the participants.
The State Project Coordinator, Dr. Olufemi Bolarin, assured the six participating bidders of a transparent and merit-based evaluation process to select competent contractors.
He emphasised that the rehabilitated livestock markets would provide secured and well-structured facilities for farmers, traders, and other stakeholders in the livestock value chain.
Dr. Bolarin also applauded Governor Ododo for his unwavering support of the agricultural sector, noting that the rehabilitation efforts would enhance livestock productivity, increase farmers’ incomes, and contribute to the state’s economic development.
Prominent officials at the bid opening exercise included Engr. Abas Ibrahim, Director of Electrical at the Ministry of Works; Mr. John Adejoh Agene, representing the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors; and Mr. S.S. Amoka, Head of Procurement at the Kogi State Bureau of Public Procurement. Prof. Omeiza Usman of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management also participated in the exercise.
The bid opening is a testament to Kogi L-PRES’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in project implementation. This initiative is expected to drive sustainable livestock development and improve the livelihoods of the people of Kogi State.
