From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

A major fire outbreak was averted recently at Tipper Garage, Tanke, Ilorin South Local Government, after the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly contained flames that threatened a block of shops.

The incident occurred around 1:12 pm on Joseph Duntoye Street, where a sudden power surge sparked a blaze in one of the nine shops in the building. Firefighters on arrival battled the flames and successfully stopped the fire from spreading to the remaining shops and nearby structures.

According to the Fire Service, only one shop was affected, while several others and adjoining properties were saved.

Speaking on the development, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service urged residents to always take electrical safety seriously. “We advise the public to maintain their wiring systems and ensure safety checks to prevent avoidable fire disasters,” he said.

The intervention was described as timely, with locals commending the fire crew for preventing what could have been a large-scale destruction of property in the busy area.
