From Joseph Adahnu , Yola

The Vice Chancellor, Modibbo Adama University (MAU) Yola, Professor Ibrahim Umar, has called on Federal Government to expedite action on the bedvilling and overwhelming security challenges.

The VC revealed this at the 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremony of the university which took place at the Convocation Square recently in Yola.

His words, “in the area of security, despite prevailing challenges, we have recorded measurable improvements through collaboration and internal interventions. However, the overwhelming security challenges in the North- East zone make it very difficult to maintain optimum security, owing to its dynamic nature and our limited resources”

The VC expressed the University’s gratitude to the Federal Government for its continued support across various sectors towards education development.

He thanked Federal government for the provision of solar farm which addressed power challenges experienced in the past. “We are deeply grateful that the solar farm established in Modibbo Adama University has significantly addressed our long-standing power supply challenges. With this intervention, issues relating to electricity are gradually becoming a thing of the past.

“We sincerely appreciate the Minister of Education for his timely intervention through the provision of computers to the University. We also extend our gratitude to the Minister of Water Resources for the provision of solar boreholes and the construction of 28,000-litre capacity overhead tanks, which have greatly improved water supply on campus”.

However, “we are soliciting for the immediate inauguration of the solar project in the not-too-distant future.”

He commend President Bola Tinubu for taking bold steps towards ensuring industrial harmony on campuses, and for facilitating equitable access to tertiary education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), in the country.

The Senate of the university also confirmed an honorary degree (Honoris Causa) on four distinguished Nigerians, among whom are: the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; Gov. Bassey EdetOtu of Cross River; Gov. Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and Former Governor of Zamfara, Sen. Abdulaziz Yari.
