From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has rejected a recent media report alleging that it criticized the state of schools in Kwara State. UBEC described the report as entirely fictitious and misleading.

According to a statement from Unwaha Yahaya Ismaila, Special Assistant to the UBEC Executive Secretary, no remarks were made about Kwara or other states during the recent visit to the Master Trainers’ workshop in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ismaila, clarified that the Executive Secretary did not deliver any speech addressing the condition of schools in Kwara or Kogi states during the visit.

The workshop held in Ibadan, which included participants from Kwara, Kogi, and other southern states, he said, was solely focused on training and did not comment on the state of education in these regions. A similar workshop was concurrently held in Bauchi for participants from northern states.

UBEC emphasised that the report in question was misleading and assured that it is not the practice of the Executive Secretary to criticize state efforts in a public forum.

The commission extended its apologies for any concerns or misunderstandings caused by the false report.
