The management of Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), has taken legal steps against two individuals accused of assaulting its medical personnel, leading to their arraignment before a Magistrate Court in Ilorin.
The action followed a formal petition submitted to the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, according to a statement issued by the hospital’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Yakub Aliagan.
Speaking with journalists, the Chief Medical Director, Bola Abdulkadir, said the decision to prosecute the suspects was driven by the need to curb the increasing cases of attacks on healthcare workers in the state.
“We cannot continue to fold our arms while those committed to saving lives are being harassed or assaulted in the course of their duties. This action is to serve as a deterrent to others,” Abdulkadir said.

The suspects, Abdulsalam Hamzat and Adetunji Victoria, were alleged to have attacked hospital staff while the victims were performing their official responsibilities within the facility.
They were arraigned before a Magistrate Court presided over by M. G. Olujide, where their counsel, Toyin Onaolapo, secured their bail through an oral application, arguing that the offences were not capital in nature.
The court subsequently granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of ₦100,000, with conditions including two sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide affidavits of means.
Beyond the bail terms, the court also directed the defendants to write formal letters of apology to the affected medical personnel through the office of the Chief Medical Director, alongside written undertakings assuring that such incidents would not be repeated.
Abdulkadir stressed that the hospital, with the backing of the state government, would pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.
“Ensuring accountability in cases like this is critical to protecting our healthcare workforce and maintaining discipline within the system,” he added.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to strengthening the healthcare sector and safeguarding medical workers across the state.
The case has been adjourned until the 22nd of May, 2026, for further hearing.
