A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Adamawa State, Abdulrazak Namdas, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 election.
Namdas, a former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Media and Publicity, made the declaration on Thursday while addressing party leaders and supporters at the state APC secretariat in Yola.
He said his decision followed extensive consultations across the state, adding that over 80 per cent of stakeholders consulted, including women, youths, students and community groups, had endorsed his ambition.
The aspirant identified farmers-herders clashes as a major security challenge in Adamawa, promising to pursue “sustainable solutions” to restore peace and boost agricultural productivity if elected.
“On security, I have identified farmers-herders clashes as a major concern in the state. I assure you that we will pursue sustainable solutions to restore peace and boost agricultural productivity,” Namdas said.
Namdas, who also serves on the House Committee on Army, said his bid was further influenced by assurances from the Governor and state party leader, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who he said had consistently emphasized the need to hand over leadership to grassroots politicians
He pledged to prioritise human capital development, education, healthcare, infrastructure, water supply and rural development, with a focus on women and youth empowerment.
The former lawmaker described his co-aspirants as qualified but said his experience and knowledge of the state’s challenges gave him an edge. He disclosed plans to embark on another statewide tour to engage residents.
Namdas urged party members to embrace a peaceful process, stressing that his ambition was “not a do-or-die affair.” He commended the conduct of recent APC congresses in the state, describing them as free and fair.
In his remarks, Adamawa APC Chairman, Hamza Madagali, welcomed Namdas’ declaration and assured all aspirants of a level playing field.
“We will provide an enabling environment for everyone. No aspirant will be favoured. The process that produced the current leadership will be replicated during the primaries to ensure fairness and inclusiveness,” Madagali said.

The Member House Committee on Army also said, he has over 80 percent of individuals and groups he consulted, including women, youths, students, and other stakeholders endorsed his ambition, giving him the confidence to join the race.
According to Namdas his decision was also influenced by assurances from the state party leader, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who he said had consistently emphasized the need to hand over leadership to grassroots politicians. He expressed confidence that he fits that description, noting his long-standing connection with communities across the state.
Outlined his vision for Adamawa, Namdas pledged to prioritize human capital development, security, education, infrastructure, healthcare, water supply, and rural development if elected. He also promised inclusive governance, with deliberate efforts to empower women and youths.
The aspirant noted that he has engaged with his co-aspirants, describing them as qualified individuals but maintained that he stands out based on his experience and deep understanding of the state’s challenges, having “traversed every nook and cranny” of Adamawa. He added that he would soon embark on another statewide tour to further connect with the people.
Namdas called for unity among party members, urging all aspirants to embrace a peaceful and democratic process “emphasing that his ambition is not do-or-die affairs”. He also commended the conduct of the recent party congresses in the state, describing them as free, fair, and inclusive.
The Adamawa State APC Chairman, Hamza Alhaji Bello Madagali, in his remarks welcomed Namdas’ declaration, describing it as a positive development for the party and
assured all aspirants of a level playing field.
Madagali stressing that under his leadership, no individual would be given undue advantage, that the party remained committed to conducting transparent and credible primaries that would be acceptable to all contestants.
He said, “We will provide an enabling environment for everyone. No aspirant will be favoured. The process that produced the current leadership will be replicated during the primaries to ensure fairness and inclusiveness”.
