From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, on Thursday led a delegation of governors to Plateau State to commiserate with the people over the recent wave of violence that claimed lives and disrupted communities.

The NGF team was received by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang. Members of the delegation included Governors Babagana Zulum (Borno), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State.

Speaking on behalf of the Forum, Governor Abdulrazaq, expressed deep sympathy to families affected by the attacks and lauded the role of security agencies in preventing further bloodshed.

“We are here to convey our heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Plateau State over the recent tragic events that have led to the loss of many lives,” Abdulrazaq said. “We stand in solidarity with you during this difficult period.”

The Kwara Governor emphasised the importance of dialogue, unity, and community cooperation in addressing the root causes of violence.

“We urge all leaders, including youth leaders and community influencers to rise above ethnic or religious sentiments and rally around Governor Mutfwang in the efforts to restore lasting peace,” he said. “Violence not only claims lives but also stalls the immense potential of Plateau State, particularly in agriculture and tourism.”

Abdulrazaq stressed that sustainable development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear and tension, and urged all sides to embrace peace through dialogue and mutual respect.

He added: “Our visit is a show of support for Governor Mutfwang’s leadership in this trying time. We pray that God grants peace to the state and repose the souls of the victims.”
