National Association of University Students (NAUS), Kogi State Chapter has sought the collaboration of The Graphic Newspaper to enhance coverage of students and campus activities.

In a recent move to amplify the voices of students across Kogi State’s higher institutions, the Kogi State Chapter of NAUS led by Comrade Owologbon Felix, reached out to the management of The Graphic Newspaper.

While appreciating the corporation’s Managing Director, Mr. Yusuf Itopa, Comrade Felix commended the efforts made by The Graphic Newspaper to keep the public informed about government initiatives and current affairs, emphasising how these contributions have positively impacted students and other young people.

Comrade Felix expressed deep appreciation for the work the newspaper has done in bringing essential information closer to the people and raising awareness of government activities.

“You have kept our people informed,” Felix stated, adding that NAUS looks forward to a potential partnership that would further boost the representation of students and university affairs in mainstream media.

As part of their proposal, NAUS appealed for the creation of a dedicated page in The Graphic Newspaper to cover campus events and student-led activities across Kogi State universities.

According to Felix, this page could play a vital role in keeping the public informed about contributions of students and campus developments, while also fostering a greater sense of inclusion for students in government activities.

NAUS also proposed the establishment of a “student desk” within The Graphic Newspaper’s editorial framework, which would serve as a liaison with campus press clubs and help ensure accurate and timely reporting of campus happenings.

This student desk, Felix explained, could act as a bridge between university press clubs and the newspaper’s Editorial Board , creating a platform for students to engage more actively with broader public and governmental discourse.

In recognition of Mr. Itopa’s exemplary leadership and dedication to student-related issues, NAUS extended an invitation to make him an honorary member of the association. They proposed presenting him with an honorary membership certificate and an award on November 18th as a gesture of appreciation for his support.

In response, Mr. Itopa warmly acknowledged NAUS’s appreciation of The Graphic Newspaper’s role, noting that it aligns closely with the paper’s mission to manage and disseminate information on government activities to the public.

Mr. Itopa affirmed that he would discuss NAUS’s requests with the newspaper’s Editorial Board. “We’ll oblige you with that request, then we’ll get back to you,” he stated, suggesting a positive reception of the proposal while acknowledging that final decisions would follow further consultation.

This collaboration, if realized, could set a new precedent in the partnership between local media and student bodies, offering students a stronger voice in state-level media and enabling a wider audience to engage with the vibrant life and activities within Kogi State’s universities.
