A 23-year-old indigene of Ilorin, Akinola Aishah, has made history as the first female student to emerge overall best graduating student in the 34-year history of Darul Kitab Was-Sunnah, an Islamic and Arabic institution in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Aishah’s historic feat followed the release of the institution’s final examination results on Wednesday, placing her ahead of other graduating students and earning commendation from the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, Sheikh Abdulkadir Jumuah Salman Solagberu.
Sheikh Solagberu, who is the proprietor of Darul Kitab Was-Sunnah and the first Malami Ubandoma of the Ilorin Emirate, expressed delight over the development, describing the young scholar’s achievement as a source of pride and encouragement.
The achievement is particularly significant because Aishah is the first female student in the institution’s history, dating back to its establishment in 1992, to attain the overall best graduating position.

Aishah, who was born and raised in the Idi Ape area of Ilorin, developed an early interest in Arabic and Islamic education before enrolling at Darul Kitab Was-Sunnah, where she distinguished herself through dedication, discipline and consistent academic performance.
Her emergence has been widely seen as a landmark for female participation in Islamic and Arabic scholarship, reinforcing the growing opportunities for young women to excel in fields traditionally dominated by men.
