From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Officers and men of the Kwara Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, turned heads in Ilorin as they embarked on a coordinated fitness walk aimed at promoting healthy living, team bonding and improved service delivery.

The exercise, held recently, formed part of the Comptroller General of Customs’ nationwide Work-Life Balance initiative, designed to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of personnel across commands.

Led by the Acting Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller, Najeem Ogundeyi, the officers marched through New Yidi Road to Toyi Road in a display of discipline, unity and commitment to wellness. The atmosphere was lively, with participants demonstrating enthusiasm and a shared sense of purpose throughout the exercise.

Speaking during the event, Ogundeyi expressed satisfaction with the turnout, noting that the strong participation reflected growing awareness among officers on the importance of maintaining good health.

“Physical fitness is not just a personal responsibility but a professional necessity. Our officers must remain fit at all times to effectively discharge their duties,” he said.

He added that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Comptroller General to build a workforce that is not only efficient but also physically and mentally prepared for the demands of the job.

The exercise, which is being implemented across all Customs commands nationwide, underscores the Service’s commitment to staff welfare, capacity building and operational excellence.

Participants, who completed the walk and fitness drills in high spirits, described the outing as both refreshing and motivating, noting that it fostered stronger bonds among colleagues while promoting a healthier lifestyle.

The Kwara Area Command reaffirmed its resolve to sustain such initiatives, emphasising that the wellbeing of officers remains central to achieving the broader goals of the Nigeria Customs Service.
