From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), has extended warm Easter greetings to members of the university’s Christian community and Christians across Nigeria and beyond.
In a statement issued by the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor, described Easter as a significant period in Christendom, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after His crucifixion.
Prof. Egbewole, who also serves as Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities, noted that Easter offers an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice, exemplary life, and enduring legacy of Jesus Christ.
He urged Christians, as well as adherents of other faiths, to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, civility, and faith, which the season represents.
The Vice Chancellor, who is equally Chairman of the Consortium of Kwara Universities, advised Christians to celebrate in moderation and remember to support the less privileged among their relatives, neighbours, and colleagues, in the spirit of love and peace.
Prof. Egbewole, also drew attention to the rare overlap of Ramadan and Lent this year, stressing that the coincidence underscores the need for unity in the service of God and the advancement of humanity.
He commended the harmonious relationship between Muslim and Christian members of the university community, describing it as exemplary and worthy of emulation for national cohesion and lasting peace.
The Vice Chancellor concluded by wishing Christians within and outside the university a peaceful and fulfilling Easter celebration.
