Omarana returns to Alma Mater, awards scholarship, backs students at GSSS Hong

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Omar Suleiman (Omarana/Dokaji Adamawa), has reaffirmed his commitment to education, youth empowerment, and grassroots development, during the 55th Graduation and Prize Giving Ceremony of Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Hong of the state.

Omarana returning home to his alma mater, nearly five decades after graduating as the overall best Student in the school’s 8th set with Division One, described the visit as a meaningful homecoming rather than a routine ceremony.

He noted that the institution played a pivotal role in shaping his values and leadership journey.

The august visitor also serve as Chairman of the Occasion, where he urged graduating students to embrace discipline, integrity, resilience, and excellence as they transition into the next phase of their lives.

Highlighting the event was the announcement of a full undergraduate scholarship awarded to Miss Gloria Dujima, the Overall Best Graduating Female Student. The gesture, according to observers, underscores a commitment to rewarding academic excellence and removing financial barriers to higher education.

Similarly, the ADC House of Representatives candidate for Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency, Aliyu Tarfa, pledged to sponsor the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), registration fees for all graduating students of the 2025/2026 academic session. The initiative is expected to expand access to tertiary education for the entire graduating class.

Addressing the people at the event, Omarana emphasised that sustainable  development begins at the grassroots, stressing that investment in education remains critical to economic growth, social mobility, and community advancement. Stressing that every child deserves an opportunity to reach their full potential regardless of background .

The ceremony, attracted traditional rulers, government officials, alumni, parents, and education stakeholders who gathered to celebrate the school’s 55-year legacy of academic excellence.

Earlier, the governorship candidate paid a courtesy visit to the Tol Hoba, Alheri Bulus, where he reaffirmed his respect for traditional institutions and their role in fostering peace and unity.

A warm reception was received from youth groups in Song and Gombi Local Government Areas, who expressed confidence in his leadership  and vision for the state.

Also Omarana paid a condolence visit to the family of the late son of Alhaji Iliyasu Chahimi, offering prayers and words of comfort.
