From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

Ilorin – In a landmark ruling on Monday, a Kwara State High Court sentenced three men to death for a violent armed robbery and kidnapping that shook the Ilorin community.

Justice Funsho Lawal, handed down the sentence to Patrick Afedia Adams, Tijani Usman, and Ahmed Muhammad, following their conviction on a four-count charge that included conspiracy, rape, armed robbery, and kidnapping.

According to the court, the convicts attacked Mr Olubunmi Komolafe and his wife, Mrs Adeola Morenikeji, at their farm in Kanjile village, Kulende area of Ilorin on 15th June 2025. The couple was tied up, and Mrs Morenikeji was reportedly taken to a secluded location where she was raped. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of five million naira for her release.

Justice Lawal described the crime as “callous and merciless,” noting the “brazen manner in which the victims were subjected to violence and intimidation.” He said the severity of the offences left the court with no alternative but to impose the death penalty.
