From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

38 persons, recently abducted from Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, has regained freedom after five days in captivity

Announcing their release, the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, for his direct involvement in securing their release.

Governor AbdulRazaq, described the President’s hands-on approach as “a decisive factor that ensured the safe return of our people,” noting that the abductees regained their freedom today, Sunday, November 23.

Highlighting the President’s commitment to national security, the Governor recalled how Tinubu postponed his planned trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to personally oversee efforts in Kwara and Kebbi states.

“His intervention, coupled with immediate directives for heightened security deployments, demonstrated a deep concern for the safety and wellbeing of Nigerians,” AbdulRazaq said.

The Governor also lauded the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police, which deployed four new tactical teams to Kwara on presidential instructions.

He further thanked security personnel, religious institutions, community leaders, and Kwarans for their support during the crisis.

“This outcome is a testament to what coordinated leadership and the unity of our security agencies and citizens can achieve,” the Governor added.

It would be recalled that On November 18, ten armed men stormed the church during an evening service, shooting at worshippers. Thirty-eight members were abducted, and two were killed.
