From Taiye Joseph, Ilorin

As preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon. Yakub Ajadi-Prudent, a leading aspirant for the Ilorin East/South Federal House of Representatives seat, has pledged to prioritise programmes that directly benefit the masses.

Ajadi-Prudent made the commitment while speaking with journalists in Ilorin, shortly after submitting his letter of intent to the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ilorin South Local Government Area. The submission took place at the party’s secretariat in the Sango area of the metropolis.

He said his ambition is driven by a desire to improve the living conditions of constituents.

“As a former Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, I have contributed to the educational, political, economic and social development of my community,” he stated.

The aspirant highlighted several people-oriented initiatives he facilitated, including youth empowerment programmes across Ilorin East and South during his time in office.

Ajadi-Prudent expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the forthcoming elections, noting that the party remains well-positioned to secure victories from the ward to the national level.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for key developmental initiatives, particularly the student loan scheme and ongoing economic reforms, which he said have positively impacted the education sector in recent years.

He further lauded the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund, noting that it has improved access to rural communities in Kwara State. He added that he would replicate similar interventions through constituency projects if elected.

The aspirant equally praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for ongoing infrastructural developments in the state, which he believes will strengthen the APC’s chances at the polls.

He specifically cited the Ilorin Smart City project and rural road interventions in Ilorin South as benchmarks for grassroots development.

On inclusivity, Ajadi-Prudent pledged to promote gender equality through his programmes, promising to allocate 40 percent of empowerment opportunities to women and youths. He also pledged to sponsor a constituency bill aimed at promoting girl-child education if elected.

In his remarks, the APC Chairman in Ilorin South Local Government, Alhaji Akeem Jaji, commended the aspirant’s youthfulness and expressed optimism about his political prospects.

He, however, urged Ajadi-Prudent to remain committed to the people if he emerges as the party’s candidate and wins the election.

Jaji also stressed the importance of unity within the party and called on all aspirants to maintain sportsmanship throughout the electoral process.
