Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has assured Nigerian troops of continued support and solidarity from civilian authorities as he joined the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W. Shuaib, to celebrate the yuletide season with soldiers deployed in Dabban Lema, Edu Local Government Area of the state.
The special luncheon, held at the theatre of operation, brought together top security commanders in Kwara, senior government officials and traditional representatives, underscoring the importance the government places on the welfare and morale of troops engaged in protecting lives and property.
Governor AbdulRazaq, who was represented by his deputy, Kayode Alabi, said the visit was a clear message that the sacrifices of soldiers on the frontline are recognised and deeply appreciated by both the government and the people.
“Our presence here today shows that the civilian authorities stand in full solidarity with our troops. We do not take lightly the fact that you are here on behalf of every one of us, and we are truly grateful,” the governor said.
He called on the nation’s security agencies to continue to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and teamwork, noting that unity and effective coordination remain critical in the fight against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
“Keeping our country safer, united and more prosperous must be treated as a shared responsibility by government and citizens alike,” he added. “Offline and online actions that endanger the lives of our troops or trivialise their sacrifices must stop. This is the minimum standard we must hold ourselves to as a nation.”
Also speaking, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Shuaib, represented by the Commander Signals Corps, Major-General M.T. Abdullah, praised the courage and discipline of troops serving in various theatres of operation across the country.
“To all personnel who will not be able to celebrate this yuletide season with their families because of the demands of duty, I salute your courage, discipline and sacrifice,” he said. “Your unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians is deeply appreciated.”
He assured the troops that the Army leadership remains committed to professionalism and combat readiness. “Be assured that under my leadership, concerted efforts will continue to foster professionalism and ensure the Nigerian Army remains ready to meet its constitutional responsibilities,” he stated.
The General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Major-General C.R. Nnebeife, described the luncheon as a morale-boosting initiative that reflects the Army Chief’s leadership philosophy of building a professional, adaptable and resilient force.
“This is not just a yuletide celebration; it is a deliberate leadership gesture to recognise gallantry, reinforce cohesion and consolidate the operational gains made by our troops,” Nnebeife said.
He commended officers and men of the division for their resilience and professionalism throughout the year, noting that their operations have significantly weakened criminal elements, reassured communities and strengthened security within the division’s area of responsibility.
The event was attended by key state officials, including the Commissioner for Social Development, Dr Mariam NnaFatima Imam; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Muyideen Aliyu; the Chairman of Edu Local Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello; and representatives of the Emir of Lafiagi.
